Kettenfabrik Mester GmbH, originally called Dortmunder Kettenfabrik Ingenieur Siegfried Bastheim, was founded on January 1, 1902 by Siegfried Bastheim, who successfully ran the com-pany until 1933, when, unfortunately, it went bankrupt. Bernhard Mester, the plant manager at that time, then bought the company and renamed it Dortmunder Kettenfabrik Bernhard Mester GmbH. He led the fate of the company until 1974. His son Horst Mester, who joined the com-pany in 1963, still plays an active role in the company today. The company, having changed its name in 1987 to Kettenfabrik Mester GmbH, has always been located on Bornstraße in Dort-mund since its foundation. On April 4, 2020 Dr. Ingo Jasper was appointed the company’s Man-aging Director.

Kettenfabrik Mester mainly supplies the maritime market with German know-how and German quality
Kettenfabrik Mester GmbH mainly supplies the maritime market with all chains and accessories required in the shipbuilding, offshore, and navigation aid anchoring system sectors. A large stock of products in our warehouse allows us to respond quickly to customer requests, regardless of where you are in the world. Up until the 1980s, these chains were manufactured on ultra-modern machines by almost 200 employees working 7 days a week in 3 shifts. Due to the enor-mous price pressure coming from the Far East, the viable production of stud link anchor chains in Germany and in Europe has become nearly impossible. Even Kettenfabrik Mester GmbH was unable to withstand this price pressure and now buys standard chains from companies located in the Far East. However, our stringent quality standards are still applied to the imported chains. We continue testing the majority of the chains on our 600-t test bed, where they can also be re-tested. For our customers, this means fair market prices combined with German know-how and German quality. We still manufacture our own chains regularly in-house at our own produc-tion facilities which offers our customers the greatest flexibility and highest reliability possible.
Apart from marketing all the standard products, we also manufacture custom designs at our own production facilities. This concerns not only largely proprietary developments but also products in custom sizes, materials and foreign standards.
We have been approved by all major classification societies.
